Thoughts About Writing and Communication

I used to think writing is boring and pointless. English along with writing has always been my weakest subject. I was above average on all subjects except for English and writing. My mom always helped me through my childhood to become a better writer. I believe this help has made me a better writer.
As I grew older, I have realized the importance of good communication skills in the job force. My previous job, I was responsible for customer satisfaction for a home building company. This job allowed me to work on my communication skills with both internal and external customers. My awareness of the importance of good communication has made me strive to be better. At this particular place of employment, I have worked with people who were not very good writers. I have received many important letters from the corporate office with information pertaining to our customers. There were times when I couldn't understand what the letter was trying to tell me. There were many misspelled words and improper grammar. This wastes company time and money.
I do not think that all employees need to be English scholars or aspiring authors. I believe all employees should have a basic understanding of proper writing skills. Good communication is one of the most important ingredients of a successful business.
